Córdova and Chiriví won again

IM Emilio Córdova kept his victorious run in the XVIII PANAMERICAN YOUTH CHESS FESTIVAL and obtained his fourth straight triumph. This time, the victim was his fellow countryman the Peruvian Luis Miguel Bedoya. Bedoya needed a lot of time to analyze in order to get the lead, but he lost it due to the rush: he played fast because the lack of time and he mistook favoring his Cordova’s position, finally, the favorite player got the point. In U18, the Colombian Andrés Gallego beat fellow countryman Fair Cuesta.

Absolute Girls U12
In the game between the top Colombian players, champion Melissa Castrillón fell against her dear friend Aura Salazar. Salazar, former state champion, leads the female players in three categories: U12, U14 and U 16.

Absolute boys U10
In absolute U10, the Ecuadorian Vicente Azua Ávila is the only one who has won the four games played. Blandon y Posada are half point behind. Colombian Luis Guillermo Blandón manage to set a mate position and force the stalemate from an inferior position against Brazilian Arthur Gontijo Chiari. With that score, both of them got 3,5 points. In the other confrontation of a top player, Juan Manuel Posada tied, in the first table with Argentinean Nino di Gionnatonio.

Girls U18
Brazilian player Vanessa Feliciano, only player with three previous victories before the fourth round lost his undefeated condition against Colombian WIM Jenny Chiriví. Chiriví was surprise with the opening and got a disadvantage (bad position of the King) but manage to get back and won with total clearness. Chiriví is the only leader in the category with 3,5 points out of 4.

World Youth Chess Championships are getting closer.
Tournament director of the Turkish Chess Federation, Abdurrahman Koral, arrived to Medellín on Wednesday to officially introduce to the American continent the World Youth Chess Championship to be played in Antalya (Turkey), from the 17th to the 29th of November, 2007. The XVIII PANAMERICAN YOUTH CHESS FESTIVAL – Medellín 2007 qualifies to the top event.
