Colombian Aura Salazar, five points out of five

Colombian Aura Salazar completed five victories in a row in the Girls U12 of the XVIII PANAMERICAN YOUTH CHESS FESTIVAL – Medellín, 2007. Salazar had beaten Sarai Hernández and Xenia Flores in the first two rounds and obtained her fifth victory against fellow countrywoman Adriana Pachón. Pachón got to the sixth round undefeated with only one tie against Angie Chiriví in third round.
Girls U18
WIM Jenny Chiriví won a in a very intense game (lasted 4 hours) against Argentinean WMF Stephanie Amed and consolidated as a title candidate in the U18 category. The player is the only leader with 4,5 points after 4 victories and one tie in the previous five rounds. Chiriví will play in the first table against WFM Milena Herrera who has not lost in the championship: two ties against Peruvian Carol Pretell and Venezuelan Nayeiles Carrero in the fourth round. Herrera comes strong after defeating Celsa Sánchez from Venezuela.

Mauricio Ríos WMI Chiriví´s coach, explains the victory: “Fortunately we got the dark pieces because we had prepared the game that way: very positional, where you have to move changing the attack from side to side. Jenny identified the times when she was exposed when the Argentinean was attacking. Chiriví obtained an advantage because of one more pawn, then two. She got into a position of victory in which she knew how to deal with time and pressure.

Absolute U16
Peruvians IM Emilio Córdova y FM Renato Terry will play a game that could shape the champion of the U16 category. Córdova has won his five games (5 points), Terry (4,5). Also to be considered Argentinean Nicolás Mayorga (4,5), Ecuadorian Jeison Meza (4), Colombians Juan David Becerra (4), Simòn Sanchez (4), Mi David Arenas (3,5), Salvadorean Gustavo Aguilar (4) and Justin Blackman from Barbados(3,5).

Absolute U12
Colombian Raúl Barros defeated FM Jorge Cori from Perú. With the lost of Cristóbal Henríquez against Argentinean Emilio Fiora, Barros leads in solitary.

Girls U10
Peruvians Paula Paredes and Aurora Edith Félix and Colombian Paula Hernández are the leaders in the U10 category.
